Since I made this Halloween wreath last week for my Sis-in-law Heather’s new house, I figured I needed a new one too. I’ve had the same one for a while (which I love, it’s black and has a bunch of awesome glittery colors), but I needed something fresh this year. So when I saw this wreath:
I knew I had to re-create it for my front door. Oddly I accidentally found and picked out the same identical fabric as the inspiration wreath from “The 36th Avenue”. I knew I loved the fabric a little too much for a reason when I saw it at Joanns. : )
So I will show you how I made my wreath. If you would like to make one yourself, here’s what you will need:
* Foam or straw wreath
* Glue gun
* Fabric (one to wrap the wreath with,
and other colors for rosettes, and tie at the top)
* Burlap (I chose a natural color, about 1/4 of
a yard should be enough)
* Scissors
* Black bird from Dollar Tree’s Halloween decor
* Rhinestones & buttons
(Note: I added some extra black feathers I already had to the black birds tail to make it fuller!)
Let’s start.
The fabric you choose for wrapping the entire wreath can be whatever you want, a print or a solid. I chose this lovely burnt orange and cream print from Joanns. You really only need about a 1/2 yard and you will have left overs for other pretty projects.
I chose a natural burlap, some mossy greens, a black and white tiny polka dot, a gray print, and a burnt orange solid for my final choices. The black and white tiny polka dot print was the fabric I used for the tie at the top of the wreath to hang it with, and a few rosettes to tie in the blacks.
I cut my fabric in strips 2 1/2 inches in width to wrap around the wreath. Hot glue the end of your first strip to the wreath (if using a straw wreath, do not remove plastic!) Let the glue dry and start wrapping fabric tightly. Once you come to the end of your fabric strip glue it down, and get another strip. Just keep gluing strips matching up the ends as you go so it seems to be all one piece.
All done wrapping! Now find the front of your wreath. I started and ended my fabric strips on the same side so that I had a back and a front. Make sense?
Now here’s where I completely forgot to take pictures!
Go figure. : )
Make rosettes or fabric flowers in whatever style you are comfortable making. Make as little or as many as you’d like. I did two of each color, and a few extra of the orange solid fabric. I made 3 burlap rosettes (the burlap will be messy!) Once you have them all made, cut a piece of burlap about 18″ inches or so long and about 4″ wide. Take the burlap and start gluing it to the wreath off center on the lower left. I started gluing and kind of made a ruffle pattern while gluing so it wasn’t just flat. I dove tailed the ends too. Now start gluing your rosettes and flowers. Once your done with that add any rhinestones, or buttons you’d like to add some extra pizazz! Now take the feet off the black bird (they come right out), and glue him to the wreath tucked behind the rosettes and burlap. Lastly add your contrasting fabric to the top of the wreath to create your hanger. And your done. If you want you can add a twine banner or something to say Welcome, Boo, or something along those lines. I chose to just leave it plain.
Hope you like it. I love the orange in it! Enjoy.

That is a great wreath. I like how tight the rosettes are together. It says fall without being too traditional. The bird is wonderful.

I had two girlfriends over last night for a little wine & craftiness. We made this! I found the fabric at Joann’s and used sparkly black crows from Michael’s. They turned out so cute! Thanks for the tutorial. ๐
