Tuesday Top 10 - My Favorite Beauty & Hair Products

This weeks Top 10 list is all about my favorite hair & make-up products.  I will just warn you, I'm nothing fancy and I don't use any fancy products...I'm a girl on a budget, and I make inexpensive things work!  And as always I'm linking this post up with Miss Mommy and her weekly Top 10 Post.  So let's get this list rolling...

#1
These are my all time favorite eye shadow colors.  (if it wasn't $14 I'd totally be buying me some pink freeze right now!)  It's MAC's "Pink Freeze" & "Trax" eyeshadow.  And let's just say I've been using the same "Trax" eyeshadow for 8 or 9 years (don't judge me, I know it probably has disgusting germs...but I can't toss it!)  The "Pink Freeze" ran out last year, and I've yet to replace it...sniff.

My favorite mascara is by CoverGirl.  It's there Lash Blast Volume Blasting mascara.  It's about $7 at most stores.  I love the wand on this mascara it really helps plump my lases up.  And there is usually a coupon, so that makes it even better.

For the past couple years I've been using Bare Minerals foundation.  I love it!  It's the first make-up I felt helped to clear my face and keep breakouts away.  It's not heavy, and I felt it gave me an overall smoother look to my make-up.  I love the concealer, and the primers too!  But at a $28 price tag for just the foundation, then $18 for the concealer, and $20 for the veil...it became quite a heft price tag for a girl on a budget.
MATTE SPF 15 Foundation
If I had the money to spend on it...It would always be my first choice to purchase.  Sadly I don't though (or I should say I don't want to spend my $$$ on all that, when I could save a buck).  So now I use Maybelline's Mineral Power Powder Foundation & Veil.  It's about $7 and lasts me a couple months for the foundation, and the veil lasts forever.  I think it works pretty well in comparison to the "Bare Minerals" version.  And I just use a regular blush, usually cheap stuff.  I sometimes use a bronzer (left over Bare Minerals brand...that stuff lasts forever since you only use a little bit.)

I discovered this awesomeness last year at Ulta while looking for something that compared to the "Bare Minerals" brand of their face primer.  It's Loreal's Studio Secrets - Magic Perfecting Base.  It's amazing, it does the same job at a fraction of the cost.  You really don't even need to use a lot, just a small dab on each part of your face.  It creates such a smooth creamy surface for the mineral foundation and it makes the make-up just glide on.  I don't use it everyday since I'm too lazy to even put make-up on daily.  I love to use it when I get all dolled up though.  And with a $10-$12 price point it's a bargain.

I'm almost embarrassed to share this with you, seeing as how I'm 32 years old and LOVE this next product.  Let's not even mention it smells wonderful and sadly tastes good too!  (No I haven't eaten it to taste it, but we all lick our lips)  It's Lip Smackers - Dr. Pepper flavored chapstick.  You may be asking yourself...WHY?  Well I never had it as a kid and bought it a few years ago because I needed chapstick and it sounded fun.  I loved it.  It gave my lips the perfect amount of pinkish/red coloring that I wanted, I don't usually wear regular lipstick because I don't like the way it feels.  I love glosses, but I wanted something that was quick.  I got lot's of compliments on the color of my lips when wearing it.  I also love the Coca-Cola one too, it has more of a brown color to it of course.  Don't judge, try it!

Now onto the hair stuff.
I usually have to switch shampoo & conditioner frequently to avoid an itchy scalp.  I don't know why, but if I use one product to wash & condition with for longer than a bottle's worth I itch like a crazy person.  Even with the expensive stuff.  I use to buy Biologe (love the smell!), but that did the same thing to my scalp.  Plus I have naturally curly hair that has a tendency to be a little frizzy.  I started using Head & Shoulders - Smooth & Silky Shampoo and Conditioner, which costs about a $5 purchase price at most retailers.  There are always coupons, awesome!  It honestly is the best shampoo & conditioner I have ever used!  It keeps my scalp from itching, even when I use it all the time.  It is the only shampoo that really helps smooth my hair and it makes it the softest.  It's great.

Last year I discovered Dry Shampoo!  Holy batman, best invention for a girl!  Where has this magic spray been all my life?!  I use to put baby powder in my roots (since I use to only wash my hair ever 4 or 5 days), now I can't get away with that since hormones changing have caused my hair to become different.  The baby powder was fine, but on dark hair leaves it dull and you can sometimes see a residue (not cute!)  So I have been using my favorite dry shampoo for about a year which is the Batiste brand of Dry Shampoo.  It costs about $7 at Sally's or even my grocery store (Fry's or Kroger).  It's a small can so it didn't last me long, maybe about 3 weeks or so.
Batiste Dry Shampoo, Blush
But a few weeks ago I bought the new Suave Professionals Dry Shampoo.  Yes I had a coupon!  Ha.  It only costs about $2.50 for a bigger can than the Batiste brand.  So it lasts longer.  It works just as good, you really don't need that much.  And let me just tell you it's awesome for adding a grip to your hair if your going to be teasing it for any reason - no need to texture powder or hairspray to create the tease.

A few haircuts ago at the salon my girl put this magic oil in my hair, it helped my hair to blow dry faster...and I've NEVER had my hair so soft.  I asked her what it was and she told me Argon Oil.  I immediately went to Sally's Beauty Supply and bought some.  Costs about $9 for a bottle that will last you forever, since you only need a small amount (less than a dime size for shoulder length hair, and about a nickel size for long hair).  It's amazing for blow drying your hair, putting it in your damp hair from about mid-scalp down to the ends (I avoid the roots).  I also use it instead of other product sometimes for leaving my hair curly, it really cuts down on frizz better than anything I've ever used before!  And I just let it air dry when leaving it curly.

My flat iron is a must have!  Wish I had this in high school!  The hub's & Corbyn bought me this Sally's Beauty Supply generic version of the Chi straightener, costs about $55 and heats up to about 410 degrees...which is a requirement for me!  The best I've ever owned.  Mine is black with rhinestones!

And lastly when I wear my hair curly I don't like the crunchy look, I like the beachy waves if I can achieve them.  So in addition to the Argon Oil I use, I also use this Garnier Fructis wonder waves spray.  Costs about $2.50.  I use to love their surf spray, but they no longer make it.  So this works pretty well.  No crunch to the curls, just defined.  On my to-do list is to try and make a homemade version of the Bumble & Bumble surf spray though, I will let you know how it works when I try it.  I've hear good things about it.

I've been hearing so much about the dry shampoo stuff! I think I'm going to have to give it a try considering I absolutely HATE having to blow dry my hair after a washing!

Dry Shampoo is AWESOME! I have had a hard time finding a good brand for cheap.

Can't live without the CHI, I would have been a rockstar with one in high school.
