Check out my handsome guys!
I'm that Mom that makes them go together and coordinate their costumes, they have no say yet! And thankfully they are always on board with the idea. This year there were a few choices to choose from and they finally both agreed on being a scuba diver and a shark. Pretty easy if you ask me to do!
Kaison's shark costume was a gray zip up hoodie, and gray sweatpants to match. I couldn't find the right color in the boys department anywhere....Sooooo he's wearing a girls jacket & pants what I could find at Walmart. Cost all of about $10. Not too bad. I used stiffened felt for his fin on the back and the teeth, and regular felt for his eyes and chest. So add a couple more bucks and the costume is done! I sewed everything on instead of hot gluing anything just in case I want to remove all the pieces and give the sweats to someone who could use them. Although now I'm thinking I'll keep it around like all the other costumes I've made. I think now that I've seen the costume the day after though I would use fleece for the chest piece next time so it doesn't get all fuzzy after wearing it once!
Kaison really loved it!
Corbyn's costume was almost just as easy. I took a little thought for a couple things, but none the less still easy peasy! I couldn't find a thin enough hooded black pullover shirt, seeing as how it was almost 90 degrees here yesterday I didn't want him to sweat to death at school for their costume parade. So I bought a regular long sleeve t-shirt for $5, and the pants are girls the only pants I could find that were sorta stretchy and fitted (I don't really like sweatpants with elastic on the bottom so that was a no for me!) The pants actually were also from Walmart and cost $6 and had little pockets with bows on the side, but I just removed those with a seem ripper and viola no one would ever know. Although now everyone knows cause I've blurted it out! Ha Ha. I made a hood for the shirt with some t-shirt fabric remnants from Joanns. Next I had to make his tank. It's two 2 litter bottles from soda that I spray painted silver. Then I taped them together with electrical tape at the top and bottom, and covered the tape with black cotton ribbon that I had. Then I made some straps out of some black belt webbing (?) and glued the tanks on. I bought some vinyl tubing from Home Depot for the hose, and the mouth piece is off an old water bottle and just painted silver too. The diving weights are small pineapple juice cans that I glued to a webbing belt and added velcro for a closure. We found some flippers on clearance at Target for $6 (came with the goggles, another pair of goggles, the flippers, and a snorkel thingy) pretty good deal! Corbyn seriously got so many compliments all night trick or treating it was so fun to hear everyone say how original it was! He definitely loved it and wants to wear it to pretend play!
They really had a blast this year, and so did I! It was my first time trick or treating EVER and Corbyn and I hit almost every house in my Mom's neighborhood. Granted we have WAY more candy that one should legally be allowed to have in their house, but it was fun. Some of it is already being donated.
