This is the first full month I think I've completed the challenge and posted the pics.  I'm addicted to it.  It will be fun to look back and see all the different pics in the future.  So without further delay...

Here is my July...

Color of the Month {Lime Green}

I just realized yesterday that July is over, how did that happen?! I have still not yet posted my "Color of the Month" choice.  So better late than never.  My color choice for July is Lime Green.  It's such a bold refreshing summer color.  So as always I hope that you'll take some inspiration away from my choice of color for the month and find a way to use it in your home or wardrobe for the remainder of this Summer and even into fall.

Faux Stainless Steel Alphabet Magnets {Pottery Barn Knock-Off}

A few weeks back my friend Rebecca and I were just chatting when she mentioned something...Stainless steel alphabet fridge magnets!  She said she'd seen them somewhere, and I found out they were from Pottery Barn.  Not only were they from Pottery Barn, but they cost $29 for the set!  What!?!  Here's  what they look like at Pottery Barn.

Stainless-Steel Kitchen Accessories
alphabet magnets
Cute, but ridiculous right?!
Come on, we've all seen or probably have had the typical multi-colored bright {obnoxious} alphabet magnets on our fridge for our kiddo's at some point.  So we talked and thought it would be a fun DIY project to re-create.  Why didn't I think of this before!  I love how they turned out, well minus the little monsoon mishap a few of my letters suffered from while drying outside.

{Don't mind my shadow, or the crazy amounts of tiny scratches on my fridge.  Note to those that plan on buying a black shiny fridge, they will scratch with anything that touches them.}

These are incredibly easy to do...
Here is what you will need:

- 1 Set Plastic Alphabet Fridge Magnets
- 1 Can primer spray paint
- 1 Can Valspar "Brilliant Metal" silver spray paint

{This total project cost me about $4.  I already had the Valspar "Brilliant Metal" silver spray paint, but this paint is a must!  It's the closet to a shiny silver as I have found to date.  I originally tried the Krylon silver spray paint and that wasn't nearly as bright as the Valspar was.  So use the Valspar.  And this project can be done in any color you want honestly.  Gold, bronze, copper, white, black, you name it!  The magnets I found at Walmart I think for around $2, along with the cheap gray walmart brand spray primer.}

Spray your letters with primer, let it dry.  Then spray a coat of the Valspar "brilliant metal".  Let it dry really well.  When it's dried completely you will have amazing new magnets that won't clash with your kitchen decor.  And the kids will still have fun playing with them.  And hopefully you won't have a monsoon storm blow through and blow your letters all over the yard!

A little bit about life lately...

I know it's been a while since I've done consistent blog posts.  It seems like forever, especially since I was trying to maintain a daily posting schedule.  Between going on vacation a month ago and trying to get back in to the swing of things, and now with the passing of our nephew almost two weeks ago...it seems I've lost some enthusiasm to blog.  School is starting in two weeks as well which is making me even lazier.  I've enjoyed just sitting and reading at night and not being attached at the hip to my computer.  Honestly I haven't spent much time on it at all over the past couple weeks.  It's relaxing.

I've also had this overwhelming sense that my priorities were getting a little out of hand.  I love that I started this blog, I love that people appreciate my work and my talent.  That was the whole reason I started it...to inspire others to use their creativity and to share all the things I love.  I also started the blog with the hopes that in some way it would develop into a way for me to earn some income in the future when my kiddos are both in school.  It's been almost a year and I feel so blessed that 500 readers publicly follow me.  Although up until a little over a month ago I was obsessing about the numbers, wondering how to make it grow bigger, how to have more people like me.  I found myself trying to compete with other bloggers who were also newer bloggers, their blogs were growing faster...and it had bothered me so much that mine wasn't growing like those blogs.  Thinking to myself, what do theirs have that mine doesn't?!?!  Then it hit me...who cares!  It's silly really.  I started this for me, not to compete with others but for me to feel successful and accomplished at something.  No I don't have a fancy blog design (I do all the work myself on what programs I have available to me for free), I don't sponsor other blogs and I don't have sponsor spots on my blog as of yet.  I always said when I hit around 500 readers I would do those things, but honestly spending the money just to get more readers seems silly to me right now.  Don't get me wrong I would love to sponsor other bloggers, their are some I really adore.  Right now though I believe if my blog and it's content are of quality, and if I'm genuine the readers will come on their own.  Either through pinterest, or other blogs, word of mouth, etc...  To me that's enough for now.  I love so many blogs, and admire so many of those bloggers for their accomplishments and the hard work they put in to the blog.  I desire to be that some day, but for now this is who I am and I'm super okay with that.

I am trying to get back in to the swing of things and hopefully once the oldest is back to school in two weeks my posts will become more consistent again.  That's my goal at least.  I really do love blogging and I feel like it has made me actually complete more projects that I would normally finish on my own, I have a bit of crafting ADD and start lots of things but never finish them.  So I hope you continue to read and I hope you enjoy what I have to offer you!  And for now I will continue to read my books at my own leisure, enjoy my boys and what is left of summer break!

BBQ Chicken Salad {CPK Recipe Knock Off}

One of my favorite salads to eat at California Pizza Kitchen {CPK} is their BBQ Chicken Salad.  It's so good!  Yesterday I had some girlfriends with their kiddo's and I thought it was the perfect salad to make to indulge in while the kid's played on the slip and slide.  Today I'm sharing my recipe with you, it is really super easy!

Grocery List:

- 3 to 4 Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast {Grilled and Chopped}
- 1 Head of Romaine Lettuce {Washed and Dried}
- 1 Head of Green Leaf Lettuce {Washed and Dried}
- 1 to 2 Medium Sized Tomatoes {Petite Diced}
- 1 Jicama {About the size of your hand when balled up, Petite Diced}
- Shredded Monterey Jack Cheese, or a Reduced Fat Shredded Cheese
- 1/2 Bunch Cilantro {Finely Chopped}
- 1 Bunch Green Scallions {Finely Chopped}
- 1 Can Golden Corn {Drained}
- 1 Can Black Beans {Drained and Rinsed}
- 1 8oz. Container Fat Free Sour Cream
- 1 Ranch Seasoning Packet
- A Bottle of your Favorite BBQ Sauce {Mine is Sweet Baby Ray's}
- Tortilla Strips

{This recipe makes a salad big enough to feed 4 adults comfortably}

Okay Let's begin.
Start by seasoning your chicken breasts with salt & pepper, and some garlic powder and grill them up.  When they've cooled chop them up and set aside.  Now take your romaine lettuce and green leaf lettuce and finely chop them and put them in to a large serving dish, tossing them together as you do.  You can also add in your cilantro now and toss with the lettuce mix.  Add as much of the corn and black beans to the top of the salad mix as you desire.

Now around the edges of the salad start by putting your green scallions all the way around.  Next do your tomatoes around the edges.  Next is your shredded cheese.  Now the jicama.  Lastly your chopped grilled chicken will go in the center of the salad.

{Note:  Jicama is a root vegetable.  It has a mildy sweet apple taste, super crunchy and delicious in salads.  When you go to prepare it just cut off the outer layer of skin with a knife, do not attempt to peel it with a peeler! You will be there forever!}

Now for the dressing.  Take your sour cream and ranch packet and mix together really well until combined.  I put mine in to a squeeze bottle and fill almost to the top, leave about and inch or so of room.  Now add a little bit of milk where you had left the room and shake vigorously.  There is your ranch dressing.  Now using your squeeze bottle put some ranch over the salad, and follow with your bbq sauce like I did.  I did just enough to give it a nice presentation, leave them out for your guests to add more to their salads if they desire it.  I would normally garnish with the tortilla strips in the center of the salad but I wanted those watching their weight to not feel like they had to eat them.  So I let them add them themselves.  That's pretty much it.  Now you have a super tasty salad.
