Book Page Ornament

11/06/2013 10 Comments

Last year I made these Book Page Ornaments for a contributor post over at SNAP and never got around to posting them here.  I figured today was a great time to finally post them, if you have followed me during the holidays you know I love a good handmade ornament.  Especially easy ones that look pretty.

I switch my tree decor every year which could end up being costly if I purchased new ornaments every single year.  Which I don’t.  I do however keep basic simple ornaments in neutral colors that allow me to change my decor every year.  Then I come up with some handmade ornaments every year to fill in the tree.  These book page ornaments are perfect because not only are the inexpensive, they are pretty easy.
Supplies:
–  Old Book
–  Scissors or Paper Cutter
–  2 Different Sized Paper Punches (you can choose the size and shapes you want)
–  Cardstock
–  Buttons or Rhinestones
–  Twine or String
–  Hot Glue Gun
–  Stapler or a glue stick

1.  Remove book pages from an old book, goodwill or your bookshelf are awesome places to look.
2.  Cut the pages in strips 1/2″ or 3/4″ wide.  You want to cut them across the page, so you can read the words.
3.  Using either a glue stick or a stapler start turning your strips in to small loops.  Try to glue or staple close to the ends.  I preferred the stapler method, much quicker and stayed together better.
4.  Use your glue gun to glue the loops together.
5.  It should look like a flower.
6.  Using two different sized punches, punch some cardstock.  Then hot glue it to the center of your ornament.
Next I dug in to my button stash and searched for a button that I thought would go well with my tree.  You can use buttons, rhinestones, anything…even a coin to embellish them.
Using jute twine I created a hanger for each ornament and just hot glued it between two of the book page loops.
Your done!  Now you have some frugal ornaments that add a lot of character to your tree.

These are totally beautiful! Would you mind if I included them in a roundup on my blog? I’d just use one pic and give you a clear link-back. Let me know if you’d prefer I didn’t use this. Thanks,

These are so pretty! They look like something from an expensive store. I’d love for you to come share them at the Handmade Holiday Link Party that just started today on my blog. Hope to see you there!

Nancy Bandzuch – Be my guest. As long as there is a link back with the photo I totally don’t mind. 🙂
