4th of July Patriotic Mantle

06/27/2013 2 Comments

With only a week until the 4th of July I thought it was finally time to finish and post my 4th of July Patriotic Mantle!

I’ve had this vision in my head for a couple months that I wanted to create a clean & simple 4th of July mantle. This year I am in love with gray if you couldn’t already tell.  So when I created this American Flag Art I knew I wanted the whole mantle to be simple and neutral as well.

After making the huge flag, I knew I wanted to create some fireworks!  So I grabbed my trusty striped paper straws in gray and some glittered cardstock.  Such an easy project, perfect for the kiddo’s too.  Love how they turned out.

I had an old frame in my stash so I gave it a quick coat of gray acrylic paint to match, roughed it up a bit…then made a quick print for it.  I chose to put my favorite sentence from the Declaration of Independence in it.  I bordered it with some more silver glittered cardstock to add more sparkle!  Can’t have enough sparkle!

And did you see the cute little popsicle stick stars we made?  So cute right!?  {ps – yeah totally forgot to dust the mantle first, oh well}

 I grabbed some more of my glittered cardstocks in white, and silver, then added some gray and made this really quick and easy paper banner.  More sparkle!
Couldn’t forget Lady Liberty!  This was a Goodwill find last year, she was green and gray plastic before.  Last year she got a fresh coat of white spray paint.  I also used my Silhouette machine to cut a silhouette of the United States out of the silver glitter cardstock, then added a sweet little heart over Arizona since that’s where we love living. {except when it’s this awful 118 degree weather!}
I also added a wood anchor that has been painted like 4 colors, and a little metal eagle I found last year at Ross for $3, he also got a coat of white spray paint.  I love how the mantle turned out.  It’s patriotic, yet clean feeling. Perfect for my freshly painted brick fireplace!  Hope you like it too!
