Faux Chalkboard Banner

08/22/2013 4 Comments

A couple weeks ago I shared my Back to School Mantle with you.  I love this mantle and how it turned out. One of my favorite things is the Faux Chalkboard Banner I made with a Back to School message.  It’s really easy and can be such a cute project for any party, or a quick addition to any mantle.

Supplies:

–  Black Poster Board {I love Dollar Tree for this}
–  Cutting Machine {Cricut or Silhouette}
–  White Chalk
–  Chalk Marker {optional}
–  Jute or Bakers Twine
–  Hole Punch

This really couldn’t be any easier, and you’ve probably already figured it out.  Don’t worry if you don’t have a cutting machine like a Cricut or a Silhouette you can grab a trusty pair of scissors and a circle template and cut the old fashion way.

I happen to have both cutting machines so I love to use those any chance I can now.  So I created a 3″ circle template on my Cricut and cut out 12 circles.  Before I cut the circles I did have to cut my poster board in to smaller sheets to fit in the machine, then just used it like a cardstock in the Cricut machine.

Once my circles were all cut I simply added a couple holes with my hole punch.  Then I grabbed a piece of white chalk and simply just rubbed the white chalk all over the front of the black circle. Try to just hold the edges of the circle so you don’t rub off the chalk.  I took a paper towel and very lightly dusted off the excess chalk dust.

String the chalkboard circles on some jute twine, then write your message with a chalkboard marker.  You could use regular chalk too, it’s up to you.

Since this banner only cost me about $0.50 to make, I can make one for every occasion I need.  You can make any shape or size and just string them on your choice of jute or bakers twine, even yarn.  I love taking things that I have lying around at home and making something super fun out of them, don’t you?!
