DIY Hello Sign

06/21/2013 13 Comments

I’m currently in the process of putting a gallery wall together for my entry way wall. Since it’s in the same room as my craft room / office I want to bring in some bright pops of color.  I’ve seen several “hello” wood cut out signs that I am in love with, but not in love with the size of them.  So I decided to make something myself that was the size I wanted and could give my entry way another pop of the turquoise accent color in my craft room. So today I’m showing you the DIY Hello Sign I made.  I headed to my local Home Depot and purchased a piece of wood and got to work.  Best part is in cost me under $5.

Supplies:

– Pine Board {mine measures 7″ x 18″}
– Vinyl Stencil that says “hello” {I used the pacifico font and created it on my Silhouette}
– Americana Acrylic Paint in Sea Breeze
– Foam Brush
– Sand Paper

The first thing I did was create a vinyl stencil on my Silhouette. I removed all the vinyl pieces I didn’t need, leaving only the word “hello.”

I used my transfer paper {aka – clear contact paper} to transfer the vinyl to the wood board. I chose to leave my wood board raw for my lettering, I just liked how the cool color of the paint was against the raw wood. I centered my stencil and made sure to remove all the air bubbles.
Then just painted it with my Americana paint in Sea Breeze, I gave it two coats.
{Tip: Hammer 4 nails to the back of the wood to lift the wood off the counter or table so you can easily paint the sides, remove when it’s dry}

Once it was dry, I removed my vinyl stencil carefully using a small pin to help grab the pieces. Then I lightly sanded the edges.

I love how this turned out and it will be the perfect addition to my new gallery wall in my front entry way. You can either stand it up on a table or hammer a saw tooth hanger on the back.

    Nice idea! And again it seems really easy to do. I love that color. It would be cute to put it on a post and put it outside too
