Wood Block Joy Sign

Wood Block Joy Sign

I love making holiday decor, from year to year there is always something fun and new to make depending on my theme.  I also love finding budget friendly ways to add special touches to our holiday decor.  That is why I love this Wood Block Joy Sign.  It’s simple, easy to make, pretty, and would make a super cute gift.

Supplies:

Wood blocks from Michaels unfinished wood department
DecoArt Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint (Everlasting, Romance, Fortune)
Cricut Explore (optional)
Craft Vinyl (optional)
Foam brushes

Wood Block Joy SignMichaels has a ton of great unfinished wood items, you can make so many things with these wood blocks.  When I saw them I knew I wanted to make a simple JOY sign.

First step was to create a white wash with my chalky finish paint, I used the Everlasting white and added some to a small bowl of water.  I would mix a 1/2 cup of water with about 1 tablespoon of paint, if it’s too light add more white paint.  Mix well.

Wood Block Joy Sign 2I didn’t want a completely opaque painted block, I love the wood grain peeking through.

Just apply a couple coats of the white wash to all the sides and let dry.

Wood Block Joy SignI created my vinyl stencils in my Cricut Design Space program.  For the “O” I decided to make a cute wreath instead.

Once the vinyl was cut I applied it to my white washed wood blocks.

Use your foam brush to gently dab chalky finish paint over each of the stencils.  Peel away vinyl before it’s dry, otherwise the paint will peel off.

I used a small tip on a paint brush (you could use a pencil) and dipped it in the red paint to create the berries on my green wreath.

Wood Block Joy SignThat’s it, super easy.  So many possibilities of what you can make.  These would be so cute bundles up with cute ribbon or twine and given to a neighbor or teacher as a gift this holiday, don’t you think?

You can find DecoArt Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paints in Michaels stores nationwide.  They are located in the wood and finishes isle.  You can also visit the DecoArt website for more color options and for more chalk paint ideas and inspiration.
