Summer Washi Tape Art

07/28/2014 4 Comments

Summer-Washi-Tape-ArtSummer is full of bright colors and summer love.  This Summer Washi Tape Art is a quick and easy project to add a pop of color to your summer decor.  The best thing about this project is that you probably have everything on hand.

Supplies:

– washi tape
– frame
– white poster board
– Cricut Explore cutting machine
– glue stick or tape runner

I began by creating my “Summer Love” cut out in Cricut Design Space using my Cricut Explore.  If you don’t have a cutting machine you can totally freehand this project by creating it in word or publisher and printing it out.  Then use an xacto knife to cut it out.

I used the font Langdon.  You can customize your template / canvas to whatever size frame you are using.

Summer-Washi-Tape-ArtFirst you will need to cut the poster board to fit inside the lip of your frame.  You will need to cut three pieces if you use white poster board.  You will cut two of this “Summer Love” cut out, and the third piece is for the washi tape.

Load the poster board one piece at a time in to the Explore, and follow the machines directions and be sure to select Poster Board as your medium before hitting GO.  Cut two of the design – since the poster board is white you can see the washi tape slightly through the paper with just one layer, so double up and you will be good to go.

Summer-Washi-Tape-ArtI used a tape runner to adhere my two cut outs together.  You could also use a glue stick.

Summer-Washi-Tape-ArtOn your other piece of white poster board that you didn’t cut – apply the washi tape however you’d like.  Striped, crisscrossed, etc.  Whatever your heart desires.

Summer-Washi-Tape-ArtPlace your “Summer Love” cut out on top of your washi tape covered poster board.  Use a tape runner to hold it in place.  Place it in your frame, if you don’t have a frame no worries…you can always hang it from a clipboard too.

Summer-Washi-Tape-ArtNow you have some super cute Summer Washi Tape Art.

In case you are wondering the frame is an old goodwill find that I painted with the new DecoArt Americana Sweet Mint acrylic paint.  Such a dreamy color.
